This talk is based on readings from some of the 1200 surviving letters between two young people caught up in WW2. They were teenage lovers in 1939 and young parents by the time Stan was demobbed in 1946.

The letters are linked by a narrative from their son, Jeremy Pickard, who fills in some of the history (personal, social and naval) and also explains some of his reactions to discovering so many surprises about his parents as young people after the death of his mother, Chris.

The talk is illustrated by contemporary photographs and drawings.

It is unusual to be able to present the direct words of a young working class woman as experienced at the time, alongside those of her husband in the RNVR.

The emphasis of the talk can be 'tweaked' to fit the interest of the audience.

The talk is free (except for expenses) on condition that the published edition of the letters ("Stan and Chris in the War") can be sold to anybody who would like the full story.
