| Subjects: | 1) "The Battle of Selby, 1644" A description of the personalities and actions in this little-known Civil War clash which was a vital precursor to the Siege of York and Marston Moor. 2) "Durability, Efficiency, Economy" The story behind a chance discovery of a book of kitchen management written - in meticulous copperplate - by a Yorkshire Lass between 1903 and 1915. She's a bit of a mini Mrs. Beaton, and lived quite a life, being a WW1 heroine as well! This presentation comes with samples of old-fashioned cakes, as cooked from recipes in the book". 3) "Rhubarb, Royalty and the Rings of Saturn" There much history to be found along the byways of England. This talk looks at what can be found along the B1222 road that the presenter has lived adjacent to for the last 30 years. All the 3 R's in the title are present, along with battle sites, biking history, abandoned railways and a lookout post for the end of the world. This talk is accompanied by a 100-page illustrated book. ![]() |
