Subjects: | 1) Hidden Treasures: recent discoveries at Shandy Hall Shandy Hall is generally known for being the former home of 18th century writer Laurence Sterne, but it has a much longer history. For 600 years it has been a lived-in house, and traces of its history and evidence of former residents are still emerging. In this illustrated talk, Chris Pearson, who has lived there for 20 years, reveals some of the more recent discoveries. 2) Gardening with Wildlife at Shandy Hall. The two-acre gardens at Shandy Hall are managed to enable the maximum biodiversity of living creatures to share its space, from the microorganisms in the soil to the many human visitors who come in the summer season. Chris Pearson works daily, year-round, doing her best to make this happen. The garden won a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Wildlife Gardening Award in 2023. |
